The RME Hammerfall DSPe AES-3 2 is a short-length PCI Express card with AES/EBU interfaces. It provides eight AES inputs (16 channels) and eight AES outputs (16 channels) at 192 kHz sample rate. The card is also equipped with two MIDI I/O ports, word clock I/O, and can be used with the optional TCO module for synchronization to LTC and video.
The AES-32 is RMEs reaction to requests from audio professionals for an AES-based solution with the typical RME features and quality. This audio card is a perfect all-in-one solution for professional users in the fields of broadcast, TV, theater, stage/PA - and in any professional studio.
The card's mainboard contains word clock I/O and a 25-pin D-sub connector, providing four AES inputs and four AES outputs via standard digital breakout cable (Tascam pinout). The word clock input is galvanically isolated via transformer and operates on Single, Double and Quad Speed signals automatically. The expansion board adds audio channels 9-16 and a connector for a MIDI breakout Cable with two MIDI I/Os (four 5-pin DIN connectors). It does not require a PCIe slot.
The card is not based on a PCI to PCI Express bridge, which would simply add PCIe to existing PCI technology. It is a newly developed genuine PCI Express solution, which consequently takes full advantage of the new format, achieving significant performance gains in multitrack audio.
RME presents the world's most versatile PCI Express audio interface - the HDSPe AIO . This card makes the dream of an All-In-One solution for every possible application come true. The Advanced-Input-Output interface shines with the latest 192 kHz AD- and DA-converters, with more than 112 dB signal to noise ratio. For the first time, all inputs and outputs are simultaneously operational, even SPDIF (phono) and AES/EBU (XLR). Additional hi-quality analog inputs and outputs can easily be added by favourably priced expansion boards. Of course TotalMix, the unsurpassed flexible routing mixer and SteadyClock, RME's sensational clock technology with maximum jitter suppression of external clock signals, are on board too. HDSPe AIO also supports the optional TCO for synchronization to timecode (LTC/video). All this combines into a professional 'soundcard' that the world has not seen before. HDSPe AIO is the newly developed PCI Express version of the HDSP 9632. A newly developed genuine PCI Express core consequently takes full advantage of the new format, achieving significant performance gains in multitrack audio and lowest latency. Thanks to RME's secure flash update technology, firmware improvements, adjustments, and bug fixes can be installed easily at any time.Settings Just click on the hammer symbol in the systray of the taskbar and the settings dialog of the HDSPe AIO comes up. The clear structured, easy to understand window plus the unique informative status windows for input signal, clock mode and sample rate make your work with the card to a real pleasure. When working with several digital sources it is not only necessary to know if these are properly locked, but also if they are totally synchronized. RME’s exclusive SyncCheck® checks all input signals and displays their actual state, and thanks to RME’s Intelligent Clock Control (ICC) concept you have all clocks and states under control - with ease. Optional Expansions HDSP TCO: Timecode Option Module with enhanced sync capabilities for HDSPe cards. 1 x word clock I/O, 1 x video sync input (switchable from wc in), 1 x LTC I/O Analog-Expansions An easy to handle ribbon cable connects the optional AI4S-192 and AO4S-192. These analog expansion boards having one bracket with 4 stereo TRS jacks offer the same performance as the on-board stereo analog I/O of the HDSPe AIO: up to 192 kHz, balanced operation and 3 different reference levels. With this a maximum of 6 analog inputs and 8 analog outputs can be achieved. Word-Clock-Expansion The optional 9632 Word Clock Module provides a galvanically isolated word clock input and two word clock outputs via BNC jacks. TDIF-Expansion HDSPe AIO can also provide a TDIF interface when using the TEB module. Features: Balanced* stereo analog in- and output, 24-bit/192kHz, > 112 dB SNR Optional analog expansion boards with 4 balanced in- or outputs All analog I/Os capable of 192 kHz, constant number of available channels 1 ADAT digital I/O, supporting 192 kHz via S/MUX4 operation 1 SPDIF digital I/O, 192 kHz-capable 1 AES/EBU digital I/O, 192 kHz-capable 1 Stereo headphone output, separate DA-converter and playback device So up to 18 inputs and 20 outputs can be used simultaneously! 1 MIDI I/O with 16 channels of hi-speed MIDI via breakout cable DIGICheck, RME’s unique metering- and analysing tool TotalMix: 760 channel Mixer with 42 bit internal resolution Native PCI Express - no PCI to PCI Express bridge used * The HDSPe AIO ships in a basic version with analog RCA/phono breakout cables (headphone: TRS jack). Therefore all analog I/Os are unbalanced. An analog XLR breakout cable is available as option (headphone: Neutrik TRS locking jack), turning analog into balanced mode. HDSPe AIO includes SteadyClock (TM), RME’s own clock technology, combining professional features like maximum jitter suppression at full varipitch capabilities and software controlled sample rates. Included software: DIGICheck for Windows: Spectral Analyser, professional level meter for 2, 8, or 20 channels, Vector Audio Scope, various other audio analysis tools. The RME HDSPe MADI is both an inexpensive and outstanding PCI Express card with MADI interface. HDSPe MADI is based on the award-winning HDSP MADI card, and represents the new top model of this world-wide successful card line.
The PCI Express card consequently uses all advantages of the MADI format, the professionals' multi-channel audio interface, offering 64 channels of 24-bit audio at a sample rate of up to 48 kHz, 32 channels at up to 96 kHz and 16 channels at up to 192 kHz. Transmission is done via a single line, either coaxial with BNC plugs or by fiber cable. In both cases more than 100 m cable length can be achieved.
Compared with the HDSP MADI (Standard PCI version), the express card offers some new features: Support of higher samplerates than 96 kHz, more features in TotalMix (phase and inernal loopback per channel, +6 dB gain for the hardware outputs), and the direct support of the Time Code Option. HDSPe MADI provides even lower latencies, making the card the perfect partner for live recording and live mixing applications. The analog monitor output is equipped with the low-latency converter technology of the ADI-8 QS, thus guaranteeing stunning SNR and THD values too.
HDSPe MADI is fully compatible to all devices with MADI interface. In combination with the ADI-648 an 8 x ADAT optical PC interface is realized, unbeatable in price and performance. With the ADI-6432 a bidirectional AES/EBU frontend with 64 channels is available.
On a powerful PC/Mac three HDSPe MADI can be used in a combination, providing 192 inputs and 192 outputs on a single workstation simultaneously.
The RME HDSPe ExpressCard MADI
is a true PCI Express solution, which consequently takes full advantage
of the new format, achieving significant performance gains in
multi-track audio. The ExpressCard is built according to PCI Express
Base Specification v 1.1. The connection between ExpressCard MADI and
breakout box is established using ordinary firewire cable (IEEE 1394,
6-pin). However, the data transfer does not use FireWire protocol. The
supplied cable is 1 m (3 ft.) long. The ExpressCard MADI serves as power
supply for the breakout box, freeing you from the hassle of additional
wall warts.
The MADIface offers full support for 56 and 64 channel modes and double
and single wire technology (96k frame) for 96 kHz. Full 64 channel
support can also be found in the hardware mixer TotalMix. All 64 inputs
and 64 playback channels can be routed and mixed to 64 physical outputs
completely freely, which translates to an 8192 channel mixer. With that,
RME's MADI interfaces offer the most powerful router/mixer ever
implemented on a PCIe card, and allow much more than a usage as pure
computer I/O unit:
MADI optical patchbay and router MADI coaxial/optical or vice versa converter and splitter MADI redistributor, patchbay and router
TotalMix can be completely remote controlled via MIDI. Furthermore, the
hardware delivers RMS and peak level meters for full control over 192
audio channels at minimal CPU load.
RME uses a configuration memory for the most important settings of the
card. Instead of operating in a default mode on computer power-up until
loading the driver, MADIface activates the last used sample rate,
master/slave configuration and MADI format immediately when switched on.
This eliminates disturbing noises and clock network problems during
power-up or re-boot of the computer.
* While many MADI-based devices require an additional word clock or AES
line, the MADIface (like all RME devices) uses SteadyClock(TM) to
extract the reference clock at lowest jitter directly from the MADI
signal, making long-distance connections even more convenient. Although
not available at the MADIface itself, word clock input and output are
available when using another RME MADI device.
** MADIface offers a virtual MIDI port within the driver. Mainly
intended for remote controlling further RME devices, it can also be used
to send and receive usual MIDI data. The MIDI data are invisibly
inserted into and transmitted by the MADI signal. Therefore a physical
access is given at the RME interface connected to the MADIface.
Included software:
DIGICheck for Windows: Spectral Analyser, professional level meter for
2, 8, or 64 channels, Vector Audio Scope, Global record, various other
audio analysis tools. Drivers: Windows 2000/XP/Vista/64 (full ASIO
multi-client operation of WDM, GSIF 2.0 and ASIO 2.0), Mac OS X Intel

In the year 2001 RME started a revolution in mobile audio recording: the HDSP System, consisting of a PCI or CardBus card plus an external I/O-box has been the world's first audio system, operating at both desktop and laptop. And the world's first professional multitrack system for notebooks at all.
Today we are proud to look back and conclude: the HDSP system has become a true 'industry standard'. Thanks to continuing firmware and driver updates it stayed a cutting-edge product, still offers un-beaten performance, and still enjoys great popularity among the users.
The PCI Express card uses RME's own audio bus, already known from the PCI version, operating in combination with Multiface II, Multiface, Digiface and the RPM DJ interface. RME is especially proud on the fact that all users of RME interfaces can easily expand their system so that it operates with the latest and fastest PCI Express computers and Windows Vista, not loosing all the money formerly invested in audio hardware. A 6 year old Multiface of the first generation can still be used today with the fastest multi-processor systems! As additional option the HDSPe PCI card can be used directly with RME's Time Code Option Module, offering an SMPTE controlled operation.
RME's HDSPe PCI card is not based on a PCI to PCI Express bridge, which would simply add PCIe to existing PCI technology. It is a newly developed genuine PCI Express solution, which consequently takes full advantage of the new format, achieving significant performance gains in multitrack audio.
Thanks to RME's flash update technology, future firmware improvements, adjustments, and bugfixes can be installed easily at any time.
The PCI Express interface of the HDSP system is based on the PCI Express Base Specification v 1.1. It represents a 1-Lane PCI Express Endpoint Device and supports 2.5 Gbps line speed. Thanks to the packet-based full duplex communication, the card provides a transfer rate of up to 500 MB/s - 250 MB/s in every direction.
The connection between PCI card and I/O box is established using ordinary firewire cable (IEEE 1394, 6-pole.) The data transfer does not use Firewire protocol, but our own proprietary bus protocol. The supplied cable is 4.5 m (15 ft.) long. The PCI card operates as power supply for the attached I/O-box (Digiface, Multiface, Multiface II, RPM) over the FireWire cable.
RME HDSPe RayDAT is a multi-channel, multi-format and multi-task tool in stunning professional quality, the ideal solution from recording up to the final mastering. For the first time, even SPDIF (phono) and AES/EBU (XLR) are simultaneously operational due to separated hardware and record/playback devices. RayDAT offers no less than 4 x ADAT optical I/O, SPDIF I/O and AES/EBU I/O. That's a whopping 36 channels of inputs and outputs. On top, there are 2 MIDI I/Os and TotalMix, RME's unsurpassed DSP-based real-time mixer/router, with hardware-calculated level metering and complete MIDI remote capability. HDSPe RayDAT also supports the optional TCO for synchronization to timecode (LTC/video). Internal ADAT inputs and outputs allow to add up to two TDIF ports directly inside the computer via RME's optional expansion boards. HDSPe RayDAT is the newly developed PCI Express version of the HDSP 9652. A genuine PCI Express core consequently takes full advantage of the new format, achieving significant performance gains in multitrack audio.
