Joining Vintage King Audio in November of 2010, Drew Townson may be the newest addition to the sales team, but he’s far from the least experienced. With over 27 years of engineering and production to his credit, Drew’s name can be found on over 60 CDs. He currently works out of the bustling Boston-area studio, 37ft productions, tracking New England based artists, including his own band, Twang ‘em High! With an established track-record in-studio and in front of the mic, Drew founded and operated a successful web-based professional audio sales, service and consultation business called Analog Planet.

| About Drew Townson |
 |
Townson’s diverse resume brings a well-rounded insight to Vintage King
Audio and allows him to connect not as a sales person, but as a fellow
musician and engineer with each client. Townson looks forward to talking
shop with all of Vintage King’s customers providing the best possible
advice not only on what gear to buy, but how to integrate it and really
put it to use in a studio’s current setup.
What is your favorite piece of gear?
A great microphone.
What piece of gear do you think changed history?
The Fender guitar.
What is your most memorable Vintage King sale?
The next one.
How did you hear about Vintage King?
I have known about Vintage King for many years. I believe I first became
aware in about 1998, back when Mike was specializing in vintage Helios
consoles.
What made you want to work with Vintage King?
I have worked with VK on and off in my other Pro Audio endeavors over
the years. I have always been impressed by their professionalism,
straightforwardness, and vast product knowledge. They have always
treated me well – with respect – and I know that’s how they deal with
their clients. Plus, and this is not a small thing, they have the
absolute biggest and best selection of awesome gear I’ve ever seen. At
the end of the day, I’m a gear junkie like the rest of us!

Dear Mike,
I just wanted to tell you what a great employee you have in Drew Townson. He not only knows gear but also has an artistic understanding on how to use it. He could not have been more informative or polite.
Thank you for having him on your staff.
Best,
Kyle Querec
Hello Drew,
I suspect you typically don't hear from customers when things are going good. As I strive to not blend in with the crowd, I wanted to do what the typical customer does not do–inform you that things are going good. The items came in earlier than projected and we have installed all but the VC control. To quote the guys at the conservatory–the engineers that did the set up, "we hardly run into these type of situations where things are working without a glitch. From the VTC, Patchbay, Aurora 16, AES16 and Protools, everything is talking to each other well.

Drew has been great to work with, and the Avalon & A.D.L. 1000 are also VERY COOL. I appreciate all the service I have had from you guys, Thanks a lot.
Your customer,
Alan Spencer
What I would like to commend (Drew Townson) for, was that I described to him what my objective was and he provided me with a series of recommendations to consider. He let me study the alternatives and was most helpful when I finally made my choice. I DO NOT like to be sold anything, but he simply provided me with the choices and let me “sell” myself. A great technique in my book.
Look forward to future purchases with Vintage King.
Thanks
Ronald L
Just bought 2 API 512Cs and an A Designs 500HR. After having some trouble hooking them up I called my salesperson back with some questions. Drew Townson was very helpful and knew the problem right away (it was a balanced/unbalanced cable problem).
Now my preamps sound awesome! Thank you Drew and Vintage King. Awesome service for some great products.
Vintage King Forever!

Hi Drew,
I wanted to thank you for your excellent and expedient service in getting the antelope package to my dorm. I really appreciate the attention you gave to my father's order to get the shipment on time and so far, I'm breaking it in and its sounding great! I would love to thank the management involved as well if you could forward me their email, since they did such a great job.
Thanks again!
Best,
Meghana S

CLIENT:
Levon Helm Studios – Woodstock, NY
SALES REP:
Drew Townson
GEAR:
Avid HD Native, Shadow Hills Equinox summing system, Universal Audio UAD-2 Quad DSP card
|
|
CASE STUDY:
Built on 20 acres of land in idyllic Woodstock, NY, Levon Helm Studios is legendary not just in clientele – Muddy Waters, The Band, Eric Clapton, My Morning Jacket, Elvis Presley Band and The Black Crowes to name a few – but also in architecture. Built using no nails, only wooden pegs and locally quarried bluestone, the studio has optimal sound quality and a unique, creative vibe. Earlier this year, Production Manager and Chief Engineer Justin Guip was looking to update the studio’s DAW setup and acquire a few pieces of boutique gear for his own studio; he and Vintage King Audio’s Drew Townson connected to get the ball rolling.
Justin and I spent quite a bit of time consulting and formulating the new system,” says Townson. “Levon's barn has been there for decades as a live music venue and recording studio, so there was already some nice classic analog gear in there. But it was time to upgrade and freshen up the rig, especially as far a DAW goes. We did that in a way that it would integrate smoothly and transparently with the existing outfit, and this is why Justin called on Vintage King in the first place.”
Guip also added HD Native at his home studio for post production/mixing, which has enabled him to work through transitions seamlessly from is PT HD 3 Accel System without sacrificing quality, speed or power. Additionally, Guip also purchased a Shadow Hills Equinox summing system, which he’s been incredibly pleased with since its integration.
Justin was a pleasure to work with – he’s both professional and down to earth,” says Townson. “He tells me the sonic improvement is more than subtle. Levon is a huge hero of mine, so it was especially gratifying for me to be part of this, and I look forward to working with Justin and Levon Helm Studios again in the future. As Neil Young would say. ‘More barn!’”

CLIENT:
David Abeyta
SALES REP:
Drew Townson
GEAR:
Germanium compressor, Lynx Aurora 16 |
|
CASE STUDY:
Renowned Austin based guitar player David Abeyta worked with Vintage King’s Drew Townson on acquiring a few pieces of used gear to supplement his studio setup with his band Reckless Kelly. Abeyta and Townson immediately connected on a musical level; after some great gear talks, Townson was confident that Vintage King Audio could help Abeyta achieve his musical goals. Having heard a Germanium Compressor and admiring its aggressive sound and “in your face” applications, Abeyta’s gear search began. When the Germanium Compressor became available through Vintage King Audio, Townson immediately let David know, just in time for their work on the Reckless Kelly album, Good Luck & True Love.
“The Germanium Compressor’s sonic characteristics suit Reckless Kelly perfectly,” says Abeyta. “I’ve used it to toughen up everything from acoustic guitars to Wurlitzer piano and have been really happy with the color it brings.”
Drew also worked with Abeyta on choosing different converters for the studio. While mixing at Wire Recording in Austin, TX, Abeyta became familiar with and a fan of the Auroras. As luck would have it, a unit became available through Vintage King Audio and Drew let David know immediately.
Acknowledging that the search for used gear can be a harrowing process, Abeyta continues, “I feel really confident buying used pieces from Vintage King thanks to the profess all of their used gear goes through once it’s sold. It goes to the tech bench and gets a complete work through, so I totally avoid the feeling of dread I usually have when buying used gear. I can’t say enough good things about the used gear process and the confidence Vintage King gives you while purchasing.”
