Focal Professional ’s motto, "Listen to your music, not to your speakers," is based on the belief that one should hear true, uncolored sound in order to make the best decisions in the studio environment. Having included Focal monitors in many Vintage King speaker shootouts, enabling clients to hear for themselves, we couldn’t agree more. To achieve this level of listening, from their base in France, Focal Professional uses the latest technologies and the finest materials, continuing its tradition of innovation and design, effectively achieving the company’s mission to create truly transparent monitors.
The Focal CMS 50 is the most compact monitoring loudspeaker of all the Focal Professional range. Its design permits listening from 50cm away, while still keeping the possibility of the monitors at a great distance from one another without damaging the soundstage. The 5” mid-woofer reaches down to 55Hz, while offering a controlled bass and a totally linear midrange. The midrange register of the CMS 50 has unequalled neutrality in its price range. The Al-Mg inverted dome tweeter offers outstanding dynamics and a degree of definition in the treble that allow precise measurement of reverb and other effects which are normally very difficult to assess. The Focal Solo6 Be is an active, 2 way, professional nearfield speaker (2 built-in amplifiers - 150 + 100W RMS), comprised of a 6.5 inch (16.5cm) “W” cone sandwich composite driver, loaded by a large section laminar bass port and a Focal inverted dome pure Beryllium tweeter The Solo6 Be and Twin6 Be are designed for near field monitoring and should be placed at a distance between 1 and 3 metres from the listener, pointing towards the listening position. They can be sitting on the console top or placed on appropriate stands. In any way it is recommended that the tweeter is at a height from the floor approximately equivalent to that of the listener’s ears. If required it can make sense to place the speakers upside down so that the previous rule is better fulfilled. The Solo6 Be could be used vertically or horizontally depending on the environment, preferably pointing towards the listener.
The Focal Sub6 is an active subwoofer (1x350W rms buit-in amplifier – BASH technology) for professional monitoring systems. The driver is a 11 inch Focal with a “W” sandwich composite cone loaded by a large section laminar port. It can be used both as LFE channel in a surround system or as a bass or sub-bass complement in a stereo system (2.1 or 2.2). Therefore it includes all the features (with easy settings) to achieve this task, such as a stereo high pass filter (75 or 100Hz) for the left and right satellites, low pass filter (adjustable) with mono summation, phase inverter, phase fine tuning, mute switch, 2.1 bypass with a foot-switch remote control (not included), etc..
The Focal Twin6 Be is an active, 3 way, professional near-field/midfield speaker (3 built-in amplifiers - 2x150 +100W rms), comprised of two 6.5 inch (16.5cm) “W” cone sandwich composite drivers, loaded by two large section laminar bass ports and a Focal inverted dome pure Beryllium tweeter. Both 6.5” drivers handle low frequencies but only one of the two (selectable) is passing lo-mid frequencies.About Focal Professional Studio Monitors Listen to your music, not to your speakers These few words embody the philosophy of the Focal Professional Division. It is crucial for engineers, be it in music production, post-production or broadcast, to be able to completely trust what they are hearing. Our products are designed from the ground up to be professional tools that reproduce the reality of sound without enhancements or degradations.Specific tools for specific needs A speaker that “reveals” A tracking engineer needs to be able to capture the exact tone of the instrument he’s recording with his microphones; he needs to discern the slightest shift in microphone position, EQ, or compression on his monitors. A mixing engineer needs to be able to place various instruments and vocals in his mix with precision. The smallest details need to come out clearly on his monitors, i.e., reverbs and spaces, and they need to be reproduced at their proper levels without any artificial alteration of the soundstage.A speaker that “translates” The mixing engineer also needs to be able to make sure that his mix sounds as good on other speaker systems in other environments. Usually, when a mix is done, the engineer will make a copy of it and go listen to it in a car or on a boom box, just to make sure that everything sounds the same everywhere. In essence, the engineer wants to make sure his mix translates well everywhere it gets listened to. A completely transparent speaker, that doesn’t impart a “color” to the sound, is the best way to insure perfect mix translation. Our Speakers “reveal” and “translate” better than others. Why? Focal Professional Division designs its products from the ground up to fulfill the specific needs of professional sound engineers: to reproduce sound as naturally and precisely as possible. The truth, and nothing but the truth. Our R&D labs have put all their knowledge and savvy into action to combat any coloration or distortion that could appear throughout all areas of the speaker. Even the slightest coloration can hinder the integrity of the signal’s reproduction. It’s easy to understand how a self vibrating speaker enclosure can blur the original signal, and the same goes for the drivers, the integrated amplifier, the padding, the finish, etc, etc. We scrutinize each of these elements with the same care to achieve our goal of absolute transparency.
The 11" Polyglass® cone woofer used in the Focal CMS SUB is both very light and extremely rigid for a neutral and distortion-free response. This incredible weight-to-rigidity ratio is obtained by applying a thin layer of hollow glass spheres on top of a cellulose-based cone. The high excursion capabilities of the CMS SUB woofer offer tight and controlled bass, able to reproduce even the most minute detail. The CMS SUB woofer was designed to be extremely efficient, to make the most out of amplifier headroom, making sure that you can hear the slightest changes to compression settings.
The Focal SM9 3-way powered

Two monitors in one!
One of the major SM9 innovations lies in the fact of offering 2
monitoring speakers in only one and unique cabinet. The SM9 is thus
composed of 2 monitors:
A 3-way monitor (Beryllium tweeter + 6.5" “W” woofer + 8" “W”
subwoofer + 11" passive radiator). This monitor offers a frequency
response from 30Hz to 40kHz for total control of the audio signal
permitting extremely precise work. A 2-way monitor (Beryllium tweeter + 6.5” “W” woofer). This
monitor offers a frequency response from 90Hz to 40kHz, permitting to
check the mix transfer quality on systems with limited frequency
response in the bass frequencies for example TV sets, computers, cars,
iPod docks or any multimedia system. This monitor also permits to check
the midrange register, very hard to equalize and balance in terms of
sound level compared to the other information contained in the audio
signal. The activation of this monitor is made by setting off the FOCUS
mode on the side panel.
Exclusive acoustic technologies
Pure Beryllium inverted dome tweeter
The inverted dome tweeter is a hallmark of Focal. Introduced more than
twenty years ago, this tweeter produces a high output, but without
requiring high energy input and without increasing directivity.
The introduction of the pure Beryllium dome, capable of covering 5 full
octaves from 1,000 to 40,000Hz constitutes a new decisive advance
regarding new audio formats. This tweeter capacity to reproduce high
frequencies with unmatched speed and transparency. This tweeter allows
an unprecedented price/performance ratio. To finish with, the new TB872
tweeter delivers outstanding dynamics thanks to its amazing magnet field
(2.1 teslas).
The “W” cone
Focal has been developing the technologies of composite sandwich cones
for more than 15 years. The «W» process (Glass/Foam/Glass) provides a
true optimization of the frequency response by fine tuning of mass,
rigidity and damping parameters. The balance between these 3 fundamental
and often contradictory parameters is at the basis of the outstanding
sound neutrality of our speakers.
Passive radiator
In order to reproduce the lowest frequency range within a very small
volume without any air flow noises, the SM9 is equipped with a no
compromise, custom designed “W” passive radiator.
High performance tailor-made amplification
The SM9 uses low distortion class AB power stages for low (400W), mid
(100W) and high frequency (100W) channels, entirely respecting the
dynamics of the low level audio signal and ensuring total transparency.
