With a formal education in recording technology, Jacob Schneider really honed his skills in audio on the local Detroit music scene. As co-owner of Roshambo studios in Hazel Park, MI, Schneider, along with studio founder Darrin Fendley (also part of the Vintage King team), has recorded and produced countless independent artists, including co-worker Jeff Leibovich’s band, Great Divide. That said, as part of the sales team, Schneider easily anticipates the needs of an independent studio owner. In working with other Vintage King employees both on and off the clock, he is an ultimate example of Vintage King’s tight-knit community of co-workers, all of whom treat the client exactly the way they, as musicians and engineers themselves, would want to be treated.

About Jacob Schneider
Schneider first began working with Vintage King Audio in September of 2006.  Earlier that summer, he worked with the company’s tech department on a few contract jobs.  Around the same time, studio partner Fendley started working at Vintage King and Schneider heard the company needed a new shipping manager.  From there he worked through most of Vintage King’s operations before settling into his current positions as Sales Assistant to Jeff Ehrenberg. Additionally, Schneider has personally overseen select sales and, thanks to his experience with nearly every facet of Vintage King Audio, has been unofficially dubbed the “do anything man” by the sales staff.

What is your favorite piece of gear?

Probably the Chandler Zener (TG1), it makes drums sound like a record.  It just pulls this live drum sound out of the room.

What piece of gear do you think changed history?
Would have to say the Neve 1073.  Still one of the most desired sounds.  It’s warm, thick, works with everything and then makes it all fit together.

What is your most memorable Vintage King sale?
I’m not sure if I could name one – I just enjoy talking to people about gear and different recording techniques.  It’s enjoyable being able to learn from some people and then teach others.  The gear is just the tool in the middle.

Jake,
#60 U47fet ROCKS…I really like it! Okay, don’t get a big head here…but you have really good ears! Serious…! I know I’ve told you this several times, but having you at VK and having your option to “preview” gear (before I purchase), with your good sense of sonic, is absolutely invaluable to me; another home run! Top marks!

Peace to you and all the best,

Jake,
I just want to let you know, the 1073lb is AMAZING. This is the vocal sound i've been after my entire career, and could never find it. same with guitar and kick drum.. and just about everything i've run through it for that matter.

Of course it was worth the wait! the mic is like expected. Vintage mics are my first choice, I'm always looking in your "used & vintage" section, also for preamps. I've appreciate the gift that I've found in the pakage! I really want to thank you for your interest. see you for the next deal!

Best Regards,

CASE STUDY:
13 Analog Recording Inc. is a locally owned and operated recording studio in Tempe, Arizona. Under the direction of owner Catherine Vericolli, the studio maintains an analog focus with the modern technologies (and convenience) of digital mixing and editing. A client of Vintage King’s since 2006, 513 Analog, Inc. turned to Vintage King’s Jacob Schneider earlier this summer when the time came to make some major system upgrades.

In addition to the impressive list of outboard gear that 513 Analog acquired, Catherine specifically connected with Schneider for Pro Tools HD Native, which Vericolli and the rest of the 513 team are currently acquainting themselves with. Upgrading from Pro Tools 7.4 to 9, the studio embarked on a total makeover.

“513 Analog had already purchased a Trident console locally, so they were looking for gear that would fit well in the new mix suite,” says Schneider. “Between the gear that the studio had already purchased from Vintage King – such as their first Culture Vulture and custom racked pair of Neve compressors – and their growing wish list, we secured a really great variety of equipment for the studio.”

513 Analog, Inc. first tackled their list of new 500 series mods, including the API 512 reissues, which they purchased from Vintage King. While searching for a more affordable EQ to add to their lunchbox, Jacob suggested the Inward Connections Step EQ, now known as the Inward Connections Impulse, after the unit underwent some major aesthetic and sonic upgrades, including the VF-600 discrete amp block. Additionally, the studio purchased gear from Shadow Hills (a Dual Vandergraph and Mono Optograph), API (the 2500 SB compressor and the 525’s) and more.

“We’re really excited about the new API gear being installed,” says Vericolli. “The 2500 was a great suggestion from Jacob. We were originally looking into getting some other compressors, but the 2500 was a more cost effective option that allowed us to stay within our budget and still provide the options that we wanted for our clients.”

The majority of 513 Analog’s new gear will be part of their second mixing suite, set to open later this summer. “Our biggest issue was tackling large Pro Tools sessions on LE without console automation. With the HD Native system and Trident 80B in place, we can move sessions from room to room with ease,” Vericolli remarks. “Our new outboard options are a perfect combination with our old vintage gear and allow us to bring in more guest engineers. Working the Vintage King [on these purchases] has been awesome. The customer service and affordability outweigh any other gear company I’ve dealt with.” She continues, “They are super knowledgeable and honest about all the gear that they sell, which is a huge plus for newbies like us. Bottom line, if Vintage King carries it, we trust it.”
