Apogee Symphony 64 is a 64 channel, 24bit/192kHz PCI Express
card made to interface Apogee’s X-Series and Rosetta Series converters
directly to Apple’s Mac Pro creating The Symphony System.
The Symphony System excels on several levels; the award-winning sound
quality of Apogee’s AD&DA Converters, the groundbreaking power of
Apple’s Mac Pro, and the stability and ultra low latency performance of
the Symphony 64 card. This combination provides a flexible, stable,
high-end solution for customers seeking a workstation compatible with
any Core Audio application.
Symphony 64 features Extended Audio Routing with VBus and SBus
technology. VBus allows users to route demanding, stand-alone software
instruments, directly between Core Audio based applications, instead of
running them as plug-ins. Symphony’s SBus doubles the DSP power of The
Symphony System by facilitating the communication of digital audio
between Symphony equipped Macs with a single cable. Now it is possible
to route audio to a second computer and back again for plug-in
processing, sample libraries, soft-synth players, and session transfers
from one Core Audio application to another.

Connect the Apogee Rosetta 200 or
Rosetta 800 directly to your Symphony System, Pro Tools HD, or to any
Native DAW via the X-Symphony, X-HD or X-FireWire card
The Rosetta Series gives you two channels or eight channels of superior
AD/DA conversion at sample rates of up to 192k, Apogee's “SoftLimit”,
“UV22HR”, and our advanced “Intelliclock”. The result is a premium
digital recording solution that is built for the professional recording
facility yet economical enough for the project studio.
Legendary Apogee Conversion in High-Definition
The most crucial process in the digital recording environment is
high-quality analog to digital conversion and the most trusted and
desirable converters are made by Apogee. With up to 192k standard sample
rates, the Rosetta Series combines Apogee’s legendary conversion
quality with flexibility that complements any digital audio workstation.
Symphony Connection
Either with the Symphony PCIe card and the extremely powerful Mac Pro or
the Symphony Mobile card with the portable yet powerful Mac Book Pro,
the Rosetta Series will make a great front end for your Symphony system
when only a few channels of I/O are needed. The great thing is that you
can expand later by adding another Rosetta, or by adding from the AD-16X
and DA-16X series converters.
Pro Tools HD or Native FireWire connection
Like the all new generation Apogee hardware, the Rosetta Series has an
expansion card slot that accommodates all Apogee X-Series cards. This
gives the Rosetta Series outstanding connection capability to Pro Tools
HD with the “X-HD” card, or connect to any native DAW using the
“X-FireWire" card.
Intelliclock: Dual Stage Jitter Reduction
Another essential for outstanding digital recording is maintaining an
ultra-low-jitter clock signal. To accomplish this, Rosetta Series
utilizes Apogee’s Intelliclock. Intelliclock is really two clocks in
one. A fast-responding ´read´ clock with a wide locking range fills a
dedicated FIFO buffer while an ultra-low-jitter ´write´ clock writes the
data out of the buffer, and is used to clock the converters.
SoftLimit: Maximize Levels, Minimize
Overs
One of the greatest difficulties in digital recording is getting an
adequate level without clipping and unwanted distortion. With Apogee’s
SoftLimit, you can maximize digital output levels without overs.
UV22HR: Dither Down with 24-bit Detail
UV22HR is Apogee´s industry standard technology for reducing the
word-length of a high-resolution digital signal to 16 bits for the
Internet and CD mastering. UV22HR is also being employed to produce
dramatically improved Internet and computer audio content without
increased file sizes or data rates.
CODA: Audio Finishing Module (Rosetta
200 only)
Including the Aptomizer, Sample Rate Conversion (SRC), and UV22HR
As higher definition audio becomes ever-present in the recording process
and music continues to be delivered as a product at 44.1kHz/16-bit you
need tools to minimize the loss of detail and quality that can be
inherent in the course of music production.
To meet these challenges Apogee has developed CODA. Unique to the
Rosetta 200, CODA offers a trio of tools that will preserve the
integrity of hi-def recordings with a minimal loss of quality. Heading
up the CODA threesome is Apogee’s “Aptomizer”. With the Apotimizer you
can maximize levels with out increasing noise and distortion. Great for
mastering, the Apotimizer’s “Learn” mode allows the Rosetta 200 to
automatically determine the optimum level, and use it consistently to
normalize incoming audio.
Another aspect of CODA is premium sample rate conversion (SRC). In the
past, Apogee hardware has not offered sample rate conversion because the
results were disappointing but recent advances have made SRC a viable
option and now a vital part of CODA. With Apogee’s implementation of
sample rate conversion you can up or down sample without noticeably
affecting the quality of your audio. Apogee’s "UV22HR" dithering
technology completes the CODA triangle by offering powerful reduction of
high-resolution digital audio to 16 bits for the Internet and CD
mastering. It is estimated that UV22HR is used on 8 out of 10
commercially released CDs in the U.S. The Rosetta 200 with CODA on board
provides an end-to-end solution for capturing and optimizing high
definition digital.
Power Trio
Apogee, Apple and Euphonix have been working together to provide a range

It's About Time...
For years audio professionals have been requesting that Apogee make their legendary clocking technology available in a stand-alone master clock. We have responded not only by making it available but by making it revolutionary. Apogee’s BIG BEN is already astonishing users with its ability to bring amazing clarity and quality to audio production while providing flexibility and features like no other studio clock before.
A Cure for the Jitters – Apogee’s new “C777” Clock
At the heart of any word clock regeneration is a phase lock loop (PLL). The PLL is a combination of analog and digital elements without the ability to dynamically adapt to the nature of the external clocks. In other words, the better the clock performance, the less flexibility it has. And conversely, the more flexibility there is in a PLL, the less effective it is at jitter reduction. Apogee’s new C777 is built to address these inadequacies. The C777 utilizes an entirely digital process that Apogee has developed using the most advanced Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) technology available along with DSP based digital filtering. The result is the most aggressive jitter reduction ever. With the flexibility and stability provided the C777, Big Ben is able to re-clock devices with excessive jitter and function as if it were the master clock. The ultimate in flexibility combined with unprecedented levels of performance make the C777 unequaled in the world of clocking.
Added Flexibility with Format Conversion
Not that you would expect it from a master clock, BIG BEN gives you the option of real-time format conversion. Use BIG BEN’s intuitive digital display to go from S/PDIF to AES, AES to ADAT, ADAT to S/PDIF, etc.
X-Video Expansion Card for Video-Sync Generation
The multi-standard X-Video card will allow BIG BEN to function as a master video sync generator, outputting a composite video black-burst (including color burst for PAL and NTSC color). When functioning as a master video sync generator BIG BEN can perform as a clock slave to the video-board and generate digital audio clocks based on the video standard selected. Alternatively, the X-Video card can function as a Slave video sync generator. In this mode the output video will be a regeneration of the input video. The X-Video card will maintain the color-phase and field information through “Genlocking”, while simultaneously stripping the original signal from its pixel information.
“Adaptive Loop Filtering” (ALF)
ALF maximizes BIG BEN’s clocking ability with an intelligent low pass filter. Because the C777 has made all incoming signals into data (1’s and 0’s) BIG BEN is able to dynamically compensate for excessive jitter and even improve already acceptable clock signals to levels unattainable until now. No matter what your input looks like, ALF can adapt and overcome all obstacles to create a stable, reliable, low jitter clock source.
“SureLock”... Your Drop out Defense
So, BIG BEN is masterfully handling external clock signals and all of their anomalies and you’ve got your jitters under control. What if BIG BEN encounters the ultimate disturbance in clocking, a dropped signal? Not to worry, with “SureLock” BIG BEN will compensate by remaining locked on the last relevant frequency sent by the delinquent device. When the signal resumes, BIG BEN will gradually, and smoothly re-synchronize without interruption.
Termination Issues... A Thing of the Past
Very often in an elaborate audio chain word clock signals are improperly terminated. BIG BEN will chime in with a visual indication of over or under termination on it’s digital display for each word clock output, allowing you to troubleshoot more quickly and get back to business.
