The RME ADI-192 DD is the successor to the highly successful ADI-8 DD. The completely re-engineered device was designed to be the best format and sample rate converter ever. Hence the ADI-192 DD not only features considerable improvements compared to the ADI-8 DD, but also adds a number of new and unique features.
Key features of this extraordinary flexible converter are balanced inputs and outputs, monitoring via headphone out, SteadyClock for optimal converter quality, 3-stage hardware input and output level control, and it's capability to run on a wide range of power supplies.
Features:
The ADI-2 is equipped with a balanced stereo line input via two Neutrik XLR/phones combo jacks, a balanced stereo line output with XLR plus separate and simultaneously active phone jacks, as well as an adjustable headphone output.
The analog inputs and outputs use the same circuit design as RME's famous ADI-8, guaranteeing outstandingly low noise and distortion. Three different settings for the input and output levels each provide perfect compatibility on analog domain. A further highlight is SteadyClock, a proprietary clock technology for maximum jitter suppression. SteadyClock guarantees superb sound quality completely independent from the quality of the current reference clock. The ADI-2 uses the latest generation of AD/DA-converters capable of up to 192 kHz sampling frequency at a S/N ratio of 110 dB.
But the ADI-2 has more to offer than tremendous sound, it also gives you exciting digital connectivity. Its transformer-balanced coaxial (RCA) SPDIF I/O has switchable Channel Status to make it fully AES/EBU compatible. The optical TOSLINK I/Os can handle up to 192 kHz and also serve as ADAT I/Os with up to 96 kHz sample rate. You can even use SPDIF input and ADAT output or vice versa in AD/DA mode. The clear layout and the distinct labeling of the front panel with its functional buttons, the informative status displays, a 6 LED level meter as well as the tidy functional back panel make it easy to operate the unit right out of the box. Protective rack handles and a strain-relief for power cord and audio cables are further useful details that make the ADI-2 even more unique.
Power to this unit!
Following the 'Universal Power Supply' philosophy of RME's Digiface, Multiface, QuadMic und OctaMic, the ADI-2 comes with an external switching power supply. Its additional internal switching power supply has been specially designed and optimized for audio applications. It accepts any voltage from 7 to 30 V, be it AC or DC, and even runs on batteries and rechargeable batteries.
RME's SteadyClock™ technology guarantees an excellent performance in all clock modes. Its highly efficient jitter suppression enables the ADI-4 DD to refresh and clean up any clock signal, and to provide the clock signal as reference clock at the word clock output. Additionally, our Intelligent Clock Control (ICC) will maintain the last sample rate detected as valid in case of fault and loss of input signal. The device can be stacked without limit, all devices will be sample synchronous by using word clock. All settings are stored at power-off.
Connectivity
The device basically consists of two converters: four AES-3 inputs to double ADAT outputs, and double ADAT inputs to four AES-3 outputs. The double ADAT ports enable full 8 channel support, from 32 kHz up to 96 kHz (S/MUX). The unit provides one XLR I/O directly. A DB-25 connector allows for a use of industry standard AES-3 I/O breakout cables. Setting an internal connector easily changes the DB-25 connector to meet the pinout of Tascam, Yamaha and Euphonix cables.
The compact unit with 19" width and 1 unit height serves as format converter MADI to/from AES . MADI handles 64 channels of 24 bit audio at sampling frequencies up to 48kHz, 32 channels up to 96kHz, and 16 channels up to 192kHz. All channels are transferred across a single cable, either coaxial (BNC) or optical network cable. In both cases, cable lengths of more than 100 meters can be achieved. The AES/EBU channels are provided via 4 XLR inputs and outputs, respectively. The ADI-642 accepts 56 channels and 64 channels as well as 96k and 192k frame at its input, and can be set to generate those formats at its output. This way the ADI-642 even serves as perfect interface between otherwise incompatible MADI devices.

The AES/EBU channels are provided as 32 AES/EBU inputs and outputs via D-sub connectors. The ADI-6432 accepts 56 channels and 64 channels as well as 96k frame at its input, and can be set to generate those formats at its output.
Features
RME's SteadyClock™ lets the ADI-6432 use MADI without an additional word clock connection, and guarantees excellent clock quality in every situation. Due to the highly efficient jitter reduction, any clock signal - even AES and word clock - can be improved and refreshed, and subsequently be used as reference clock at the word clock output. Intelligent Clock Control (ICC) will retain the last valid sample frequency in case of a loss of the input signal.
The ADI-6432 supplies word clock in Single, Double und Quad Speed, distributes Double Wire 96 kHz signals into the MADI data stream, and even supports the double MADI sample rate (96K frame). The SyncAlign® and SyncCheck® technologies known from other RME products ensure perfect synchronization and clear detection of errors. Also multiple units can be stacked and operated sample-aligned, using word clock. All settings are stored when the unit is switched off.
A fully automatic input selection between optical and coaxial input offers a useful redundancy mode for critical applications. Extensive status displays give information about lock and sync states, audio content and the physical quality of the incoming signal.
The front panel features an exciting and detailed Sync and Audio State display with 97 LEDs. Furthermore there are lots of buttons with clear LED function display. Especially in a professional application, exact display and control of all incoming and outgoing signals, including MIDI and RS232, becomes indispensable. Errors can be detected at a glance. The control keys can be locked to prevent accidental changing of settings.
The MADI channels are transferred from and to 8 ADAT optical inputs and 8 outputs via TOSLINK. Furthermore, the ADI-648 contains an easy-configurable 8-channel 16x16 Matrix Router. Any of the outputs, which are divided into 8-channel blocks, can be fed from any 8-channel input block, both on the ADAT and the MADI side. With this, there is not only free routing within the M-A and the A-M conversion, but also splitting and routing within the same format. An 8-channel input block can be routed to any number of output blocks in parallel. Some application examples:
The ADI-648 is compatible to all forms of increasing the sample rate (Double Speed). It supplies word clock in single or double speed, distributes 96 kHz signals in Double Wire mode into the MADI data stream, or per Sample Split (S/MUX) to the ADAT ports, but is also capable of double MADI rate (96k Frame). The ADI-648 thus also represents an ideal MADI front-end for the Hammerfall and Hammerfall DSP series.
SyncAlign® and SyncCheck®, technologies known from and proven by other RME products, allow for perfect sync between all channels and easy notification of error states. And of course multiple devices can be cascaded and synchronized sample-accurate using word clock. The ADI-648 accepts 56 channels, 64 channels and 96k frame at its input, and can be set to generate those formats at its output. This way the ADI-648 even serves as perfect interface between otherwise incompatible MADI devices!
The compact device with 19" width and 1HU has numerous further outstanding features, like Intelligent Clock Control (ICC) and storing of the settings. It's even possible to transmit 16 MIDI channels in parallel to all 64 audio channels. A fully automatic input selection between optical and coaxial input offers a useful redundancy mode for critical applications. Extensive status displays give information about Lock and Sync states, audio content and the physical quality of the incoming signal. A digital PLL, designed especially for the ADI-648, allows for operation without an additional word clock line. The reference clock is then extracted from the MADI signal itself.
DS stands for Double Speed, meaning double sample rate. As ADAT® optical does not support sample rates higher than 48 kHz the DS mode requires two channels to transmit the data of one channel. The used method called Sample Split is compatible to S/MUX, and also found in the Hammerfall and Hammerfall Light. The combination Hammerfall/ADI-8 DS allows DVD-compatible Hi-End recordings (up to 8 channel @ 96 kHz), at an astonishing low price.
The ADI-8 DS is an 8 channel AD/DA converter with reference approach. The compact 19" 1U rackmount enclosure includes several outstanding features, like Intelligent Clock Control (ICC), SyncCheck®, SyncAlign®, TDIF/ADAT converter and Bit Splitter. AD- and DA-circuit automatically operate either independently or linked. The latest 24 bit converters with 128 times oversampling achieve 117 dBA true dynamic range. All digital inputs and outputs operate at full 24-bit resolution. If you have been waiting for a flexible, fully professional yet affordable multi-channel converter - the wait is over.
Use the following feature list to compare our ADI-8 DS with all other multitrack converters, and you will agree: The ADI-8 DS has the best price/performance ratio!
All the original I/Os are provided, including a pair of RCA audio I/O, MIDI I/O, S/PDIF I/O on RCA coaxial connectors and a single 1/4" TRS headphone output.
The RME BOB1 Breakout Box is a free-standing break-out box .
Connectors: 2 x 9-pin D-Sub 6 x RCA phono 2 x MIDI 5-pin DIN 1 x 1/4" TRS phone 2 x 9-pin D-Sub Cables
There are eight XLR AES/EBU inputs and eight XLR AES/EBU outputs on one side of the BOB-32. The other side provides two D-Sub connectors with 2 different pinout formats (internally switched) to choose between TASCAM/Digidesign or YAMAHA format. Thanks to a highly innovative design, the box can simply be "folded" in the middle, bringing all connectors to one side – a simple, yet brilliant solution: BOB-32 is the ideal companion to all devices that use digital D-Sub connectors with TASCAM/Digidesign or YAMAHA pinout.
The BOB-32 is also the ideal interconnection for RME´s HDSP AES-32 card. (HDSP AES-32 uses TASCAM/Digidesign pinout format)
An easy to handle ribbon cable connects the newly developed optional AI4S-192 and AO4S-192. These analog expansion boards having one bracket with 4 stereo TRS jacks offer the same performance as the on-board stereo analog I/O of the HDSP 9632: up to 192 Khz, balanced and 3 different reference levels. With this a maximum of 6 inputs and/or outputs can be achieved.
HDSP 9632 also supports the existing Expansion Boards (EXB). An internal ADAT input and an internal ADAT output allow for up to 14 analog inputs, 14 analog outputs, or the usage of a TDIF interface, directly inside the computer.
If you can THINK it, you can DO it with the HDSP9632!
Our recommendation for a killer combo would be: HDSP 9632 + WCM + AI44s-192 + AO4s-192 + TEB = all operational at the same time, occupying 1 PCI and 4 more bracket slots within the PC - There's no stopping now!
