The Trident A-Range is a legendary piece of equipment. As only thirteen
A-Range consoles were ever made, it remains a holy grail for sound
engineers and producers around the world that hope to create works of
art equal to those that were originally recorded on the A-Range — David
Bowie's Ziggy Stardust, Queen, Elton John, the list goes on...
The Softube Trident A-Range
plug-in is the first and only native and TDM plug-in that has been
fully endorsed by original designer Malcolm Toft and Trident Audio.
The plug-in is a model of a channel on one of the original 13 Trident
A-Range consoles. We chose to model channel 15 from the console at
Sweet Silence Studio 'B' in Denmark, producer Flemming Rasmussen's
favorite channel for recording lead vocals. Flemming also used it for
the solo and rhythm guitars on Metallica's "Ride The Lightning" and
"Master of Puppets", and Ritchie Blackmore's guitar on the Rainbow
albums "Difficult to Cure" and "Bent out of Shape".
The A-Range channel features four bands of equalization and high and
low pass filters. The sound of the bands is often referred to as
"colorful" and "musical". When running a hot enough signal through the
original unit and boosting the bands, it is possible to get it to
distort, the result is a hairy and effective saturation that is just
right in some situations, and just wrong in others!
In Short
Created together with original designer Malcolm Toft Each and every component carefully modeled Same sweet sounding EQ filters that made the original legendary Interaction between the different bands, making this equalizer one of its kind Saturation control Very CPU friendly
Controls
Authentic User Interface
An authentic aubergine color (well, as good as it gets on a computer
screen...) and the exact same controls as the real thing (okay, we
added the Saturation and the Output volume). And then we removed a
couple of controls that weren't relevant for computer recording. All
right, we changed a few things — but it still looks good!
Saturation
The distortion of the original desks is of course captured by the
plug-in. Instead of using an input volume to drive the signal, we chose
to use a Saturation knob instead — so that you don't have to compensate
the Output volume all the time.
Just set the Saturation to OFF if you don't need it, which will also make the native version more CPU efficient.
Low and High Pass filters
The ultimate problem solver. Make sure to use these a lot. If you need even more filtering, just press multiple buttons.
Developed by Softube and Trident
The Trident A-Range plug-in was developed by Softube in co-operation with Malcolm Toft and Trident.

Tube-Tech CL 1B is a true studio classic, heard on tons and tons of
records for the past 20 years. Like its hardware counterpart, the Softube Tube-Tech CL 1B native plug-in
sounds soft, smooth, groovy and can compress an insane amount of dB's
without sounding bad.
The CL 1B plug-ins by Softube are the only Tube-Tech plug-ins that are
fully endorsed by Tube-Tech.
This version requires no DSP hardware but uses the same outstanding
modeling technology and algorithms as the famous Tube-Tech CL 1B plug-in
for TDM and PowerCore (distributed by TC Electronic). The sound is of
course just as fantastic as its predecessor. With this unprecedented
accuracy, down to details such as the precise VU meter behaviour, the
Tube-Tech CL 1B plug-in is definitely in a league of its own.
In Short
Classic Tube-Tech sound in your computer Created together with the designers at Lydkraft/Tube-Tech Each and every component carefully modeled Fix./man. mode for breaking traditional compression boundaries External sidechain control A seriously great looking GUI! Very CPU friendly
Compression controls
Gain: Up to +30 dB of make-up gain Ratio: Continuous ratio control from 2:1 to 10:1 Threshold: Continuous threshold control from +20 dB to -40 dB Attack: From 0.5 to 300 milliseconds Release: From 0.05 to 10 seconds
Attack/release select
The Tube-Tech CL 1B features a unique attack/release switch. The switch
has three different positions:
Fixed: In the fixed mode, the attack time is set to 1 millisecond
and the release is set to 50 milliseconds Manual: In the manual mode, the attack and release controls work
as normal Fix./man: In the fix./man. mode, the release control works as in
manual mode. The attack, however, is fixed to a fast attack and the
attack knob turns into a delay for the release time.
Sidechain bus select
Setting the Sidechain bus select to 'external' lets you - you guessed
it! - use an external sidechain.
Meter options
At your disposal is an old school VU meter capable of showing three
different things.
Input: The VU meter shows the input level Compression: The VU meter shows the amount of gain reduction Output: The VU meter shows the output level "A truly faithful and very exact replica of the hardware CL1B. Finally it's possible to experience natural musical compression in a plug-in"John G. Petersen

The Softube Passive-Active Pack is a collection of three very different equalizers, each with its own character and quirks. The equalizers contain emulations of real workhorse equalizers, used on thousands of recordings from past to present.
Passive Equalizer is a three-band EQ with an unprecedented clear and open sound, a warm low end and sparkling top.
Active Equalizer is Passive's counterpart with three fully parametric bands and a tight and focused sound.
Focusing Equalizer is an un-traditional take on the EQ concept where the low, mid and high bands move automatically and musically in relation to the high and low cut filters. It also features filters from the Passive and Active EQ's as well as an outstanding one-knob Saturation control.
At first glance it may seem like you're sacrificing versatility by using an equalizer with a limited set of options - why use a three-band equalizer when you can use your digital equalizer with umpteen bands, continuous gain, selectable Q and different curves all built in? Well, equalization is all about sound design. Having an equalizer where the designer has already made some of the choices four you is like having an experienced sound engineer helping out and giving you directions.
All equalizers are modeled using the same state-of-the-art technology as we used to create our very popular FET Compressor and the Brilliance Pack plug-ins for Abbey Road.
General Features:
Authentic component modeling
Fully automatable parameters
Output gain and output metering
3-D rendered photo-realistic user interface
Available for VST, AU and RTAS compatible hosts
Features Passive Equalizer:
Three bands with an extremely wide and open sound
Excellent treble control without any "digital harshness"
Warm low end and a sparkling top
Features Active Equalizer:
Tight and focused sounding filters
Low- and High cut
Three parametric bands with:
Selectable gain in 2dB steps (-/+ 16 dB)
Selectable frequency with overlapping, but non-interfering, bands
(50-500 Hz, 380Hz-3.8kHz, 1.8-18kHz)
Select between a sharp or blunt peak (Q) for each band
Features Focusing Equalizer:
Built-in one knob saturation with metering
Selectable saturation type
Choose between Passive or Active EQ character
Three-band EQ that automatically and musically changes with Low and High Cut
The Softube Bass Amp Room was designed to handle all your bass amp needs, from dirty rock to modern clean, keeping two equally important goals in mind. The first was to give the user the best possible sound quality. The latter was to create an intuitive plug-in which allows for a really fast work flow. The Softube Metal Amp Room was designed to bring you the most brutal, evil and aggressive sound that is possible to squeeze out of your DAW. It was co-developed with Patrik Jensen (The Haunted) and tailored to his needs. The continuous mic placement from Vintage Amp Room is back, but this time with twin mics with adjustable stereo panning. Get a huge stereo sound with complex adjustable phasing effects, a plain old one-mic-right-against-the-cone, or anything in between. Just two channels, two cabinets, two mics per cabinet, and a wickedly fast noise gate for palm mute galore. Every setting is a setting that will sound good, so it's almost impossible to get a useless sound. Metal Amp Room is a real workhorse, a plug-in that will handle all your metal needs without ever getting in your way.

Many "modeled" compressors are nothing more than futile attempts to get an off-the-shelf algorithm to match its hardware counterpart by tweaking a few parameters like the knee and attack/release times. But anyone who has worked with hardware compressors knows that there must be more to it. And there is.
The heritage of analog compressors very much showcases the history of electronics in the previous century. It's the deficiencies of the different designs and components that give each unit its unique character, and what started out as technical limitations have now become sought-after sounds. Simply approximating the most apparent features is not enough to capture this uniqueness. It takes a model of great complexity and accuracy to make a digital replica sound like the original with all settings and inputs.
When creating Softube FET Compressor , Softube set out to make the most accurate emulation of the most famous solid state compressor. Instead of modeling individual features and putting them together digitally we have modeled the unit in its entirety: input and output stages, gain reduction feedback loops, bias differences of different transistors, etc. It's been by far the hardest project we have taken on, but we feel that the result speaks for itself. And hopefully it will be easier to do it the next time (yeah right).
