The Beatle's "Abbey Road" and Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon" have one important thing in common, they were both recorded and mixed through an EMI TG12345 desk. Only 14 of these desks are known to exist, and most owners wouldn't part with them for any amount of money, so this is a very rare opportunity. This TG desk was purchased in 2006 in the UK for the production of East West's "Fab Four" virtual instrument, engineered by Beatle's engineer Ken Scott (more details about the project here http://www.soundsonline.com/Fab-Four-Virtual-Instrument-pr-EW-170.html). Prior to this the desk was thoroughly checked and serviced by Brian Gibson, the specialist tech who worked on these desks when he was at Abbey Road Studios. He is widely acknowledged as the best service engineer for TG consoles. He has gone through this desk in detail and fixed every problem he could find, both electronic and physical, and therefore I believe this desk to be in really excellent condition. It has also had a new remote GPO patchbay made for it with Mosses and Mitchell patch strips. The front fader bar has been remounted with additional supports. The frame has been strengthened around the central area (which was a weak point on all of these desks), and the end cheeks have been repaired and resprayed . Missing knobs have been replaced (these have been specially made as there are no spares for them), and the broken perspex fader scales have been remade. We can supply comprehensive documentation for the maintenance of this console with schematics and a descriptive manual. Check out the EMI Recording Console Handbook for more information.
The EMI TG12345 Console is a legendary desk that went through four variations. Originally built to custom specifications in EMI’s own engineering facilities at Hayes, Middlesex, England, the TG12345 was the first solid-state recording console to be manufactured by EMI. By the late 60s, transistors and multi-track recorders had become the cutting edge of audio technology, and EMI spent considerable time designing and building a custom desk that could handle the larger number of inputs and outputs necessary for multi-tracking. The result was the TG12345 console, designed to be used in EMI recording facilities worldwide. The first desk, the Mk I, was installed at EMI’s famed Abbey Road studios in December of 1968, and saw use on the final album recorded by the Beatles, the aptly-named Abbey Road. Several Mk I desks were manufactured, to be followed shortly by a modified version, known as the Mk II. Continued refinement saw the introduction of the Mk III, which was used at EMI’s international locations, but never at Abbey Road itself. The last in the line of these consoles was the Mk IV. Only two of these desks were ever made, and the first of these is now offered for sale. This is a very rare opportunity to own a piece of audio recording history! This particular TG12345 Mk IV console was initially installed in Abbey Road Studio Three in December of 1971. Three years later in November 1974 it was moved to the big room, Studio One, where it resided until it was decommissioned in December 1983. Studio One is Abbey Road’s largest live room, and can easily handle a full orchestra, plus a choir. Consequently, this desk saw quite a bit of use on film scoring sessions, including the orchestral portions for the film of Pink Floyd The Wall, (see the photo of David Gilmour and Roger Waters leaning on this desk). Other film work included the original Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back, Superman, Raiders of the Lost Ark and many others.Although this particular desk is virtually unique, many of the channel modules are similar in design to earlier versions of the TG12345. This desk is the sound of Abbey Road throughout the 1970s, when classic albums such as Dark Side of the Moon, (recorded on the only other Mark IV ever made), were tracked and mixed on these legendary consoles. Only 14 of these desks are known to still exist, and most owners wouldn't part with them for any amount of money. Never available to the public during their heyday - and maybe never available again - this is a unique opportunity to own a unique desk from the control rooms of Abbey Road.Console available for viewing in Los Angeles by appointment. Contact Mike Nehra for details.

16 channel/32 line in mini SSL 4000E. Runs as a full stand-alone mini SSL console, but acts like the most advanced “summing” box ever. Complete with 16x 611E channel strips with “Black” 242 Eqs, and true SSL center section built internally by Bruce Millet/The Desk Doctor. Console includes SSL G384 as mounted in meter bridge with extra master fader output, specifically designed for the console by Bruce Millet to work in conjunction with this SSL. Each of the 16 channel strips comes with SSL dynamics. Desk has direct outs; most I/O’s on the rear of the console are via DB25 connectors, with some of the master outs via XLR (see pics). Bus assigns at the top of the channel strips can be used to group signals. The difference from a large 4k is there are no sub-group faders, only the outputs on rear, (for example, a user can route channel signals to the groups whichever way they want, to a submixer, back in the SSL, etc).Dimensions: 53”D x 27.5”W x 48”H (at Meter Bridge) -- 24” high average as console slops down towards arm-rest)This desk is true SSL throughout, including one SSL power supply, giving the added advantage of low power use; perfect for home or small studio. Located in Los Angeles. Per owner: "It only takes one SSL power unit that is racked right in the room with me and because it's only the one, it runs no hotter than say, a Lexicon 480L (and same rack space, 4 units-ish). And for electrical bill, it literally draws as little as the new Toft ATB 24 (I ran them one after another in a transition month and saw NO jump in bill"
