Retro 176
This is THE sound for me. It makes everything sound better, even if the GR meter never moves. I foresee more Retro gear finding a permanent home at my studio in the future. |

Chandler Limited TG 2 Mic pre, Germanium Tone Controls, Little Devils
I love aggressive, colored, upfront, warm sounds....and Chandler gives that to me instantly. I start with Chandler on every session. |

Crane Song HEDD 192
Clear, clean, love the tape and tube knobs too. |
4. |
Shadow Hills Optographs
These were a real surprise for me. Great for summing vocals, reverb returns and strings at mix down. I track backing vocals and keys with them too. |
5. |
API 2500 and API 550A, 560 Graphic
Classic tones that will always be used, because they always sounds great. |
6. |
Empirical Labs Distressors
I find new ways to use these every month or so, on all kinds of instruments and sounds. Put them before or after a tube compressor, just killer. |
7. |
Coles 4038 Ribbon Microphones
Putting one of these 4-5 ft from my Hiwatt with a Les Paul, sounds explosive. Its a piece of BBC and Abby Road history, can’t go wrong. |
8. |
Royer Ribbon Microphones
Upfront and real sounding. I like the back side for acoustics too. |
9. |
Avedis MA-5 Mic Preamps
Another surprise piece that makes you smile no matter what mic you plug into it. My main voc mic pre. |

UA 1176 and LA-3A
This combo used in series is really fun for tracking lead vocals. LA-3As on electric guitars at mix down gives you that polished album sound. |
