  AEA Sessions

The following songs by acclaimed singer/songwriter Jo Seraperre were recorded using only AEA ribbon mics paired with AEA TRP mic preamps in order to show off how natural, realistic, and dimensional these products sound. The digital conversion duties were handled by Prism’s ADA8, which are highly transparent and well suited to conveying the true character of the chain before them. All performances were cut live at White Room Studios in Detroit without any overdubs and utilize a total of 6 tracks. The sources and mics used are as follows:

Vocals: AEA R88 - 5 inches from singer, only a single channel of this stereo mic was utilized
Acoustic Guitar: AEA R92 -1’ off the 12th fret of vintage Martin
Electric Guitar: AEA R84 -16” from speaker cone of Fender Super Reverb
Upright Bass: AEA R84 - 1’ off f hole
Drums: AEA R88 - 4’ above and 18” in front of the snare drum as central overhead on vintage Gretsch kit

The session was mixed on a vintage 70’s Helios 24ch console fed by the outputs of the Prism ADA8 without the use of EQ. The outboard processors used in the mix were as follows:

Vocal: Teletronix LA-2A
Acoustic Guitar: Neve 33314
Electric Guitar: Neve 33314
Upright Bass: No processing
Drums: Smart Research C1

The 2 track mix was recorded off the Helios into a Lavry Blue A/D feeding the AES input of a DV-RA1000HD.

The AEA R88 stereo ribbon alone placed centrally above the vintage Gretsch Roundbadge kit was used to capture the drum tracks.
